The idea to create this teapot is based on Kendi Maling.
We can found Kendi Maling in Lombok Island (West Nusa
Tenggara, Indonesia province). Maling means thieve.
It was called kendi maling because we didn’t know where
to fill the water. Like a thieve, we didn’t know how they
come to the house.

The secret is, there is a small hidden hole at the bottom of
the kendi, about 1 cm in diameter. The water filled through
this hole. When the kendi is flip up, the water can not come
out because of the air pressure. But the water can come
out from the spout.

I decorated the surface with the drawing of buildings,
houses, and traditional pot. This decoration symbolized
the balance of modern and tradition. We live in modern
era, but we still belive in ritual cultures.
The coins applied at some part of the surface, showing
that some traditional Lombok vessels were decorated with
the old coins and rattan. Instead of rattan, I used copper
wire instead, to show futuristic image.
