THE BODY OF MY OWN
Performance and Installation
“I’m the subject of my body. My body is my right : No one may see, touch and feel my body without my consent.”
The body of women, commonly objectified in arts : painting, sculptures, film, photography, etc. The elegance of women’s body, often became an object of beauty and commodity. There were lots of classic story about famous painters with their models as the object- covered or nude. Ironically, those women did it for their life basic needs (as not to suffer from hunger), no wonder painters hired prostitutes.
In this artwork, the artist herself, decided to become both as subject and object, by inviting audiences to be part of her work.
The artist plays the role as ‘subject’, when she let her body to become the object to be responded by audiences. Indirectly, the audiences’ then became her ‘object’. In other way, the artist challenged the audiences to become the ‘subject’ by responding the artist’s body.
