China  2nd Shanghai International Modern Pot Art Biennial 2010
April 28th - May 28th, 2010
Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum

Because I am a Woman
Ceramic stoneware and porcelain
20 x 20 x 40 cm (l x w x h)
2009

This teapot was inspired by Kendi Susu (Milk Kendi). Kendi or Kundika, means pot to keep cold water. Its function is not the same with teapot, that usually keep hot water.  The word Kundika presumably from India. It called Kendi Susu or Milk Kendi, because the spout looks like a woman breast which can produce milk for the baby.
It still not clear where it came from. Some said it came from Majapahit, the last powerful ancient Javanese kingdom in Java, Indonesia, because the Kendi found a lot in  Majapahit  from 14th to 16th century.
This teapot showed a woman who enjoyed playing her breast. A natural activity that woman do for fun. Some flowers applied, to show that Indonesian women love to insert flower near the ear, and for sure women love flowers.

Showing at Shanghai Arts and Crafts Museum
